Autumn’s Ode

Leaves, red, gold, brilliant yellow
Hang in silent hosannas
“This is Autumn!” They shout.
“We’ve lived only for this moment.”
And then, like the leave taking of love,
Are stirred, detached, flutter, and sink
Buffeted on wafts of crystal cool breaths
To rest among the melee of sister colors
Destined, alike, to wane and fade
As an ode to the dying season
…And love.
